Second Round Opens WIN FOR OKAIAWA KAPONGA GAIN VICTORY WAIMATE DEFEATED AT HAWERA The second round of the provincial Rugby competition opened on Saturday, when, unfavourable weather being experienced for the first time this season, the grounds were heavy, and the ball slippery. In most places rain held off during play. In the south last year’s champions, Okaiawa, revenged their previous defeat by Patea by scoring a victory on the latter’s ground. Kaponga accounted for Athletic and Waimate were unable to score against the combination of the Hawei*a fifteen in a good game. In the north, Stratford romped home from Eltham, and Inglewood, the next in the championship order, had to be content with a nine-point margin over Okato. Star had no difficulty in accounting for Old Boys, and in a close scoring match Clifton got home by a single point from Tukapa. The day’s play leaves the positions of the teams as follows: —
