CHORAL CONCERT.

BY AVANGANUI SOCIETY

OPERA HOUSE, JUNE 26

The AVanganui Choral Society, which is to give a concert here on June 26, commenced its rehearsals three years ago and obtained lor its conductor Mr. I red W. Slater, a noted Welsh conductor and adjudicator, and settled down at once to hard work. At the first concert given it was evident that an entirely new conception of chorus part-sirigmg was manilest, and after public eulogistic comment made by Air. Arthur Jordon, the famous English tenor, the choir’s reputation throughout the Dominion was made, as it were, overnight, and this reputation has been maintained at each succeeding performance. The choir sings everything from memory, so the conductor has every eye fastened upon him, and he is thus able to obtain instant response to every mood. One great feature of the choir’s work is its articulation. One does not need a programme of words to understand what words are being sung, and whether it be in almost whispered pianissimos or passages of great dynamic intensity the words are clear-cut and distinct. . Seats may be booked at Aliss Blake s, at Opera House, and the public is advised to book early, as a packed house is assured.
