“This is a matter which has been | giving business people a- good deal of concern,” remarked a member of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce at a. meeting on Thursday. “The cash on delivery system has increased in New Zealand, but a« a business scheme the profit goes only to the shoppers at home.” “It is a vital question to drapers,” said another. “I believe that by this system a person can oj>en a parcel and then refuse to accept it.” The. discussion was caused by the receipt of a letter concerning the C.O.D. system, the writer protesting against postmasters throughout the country acting as agents for exporters from .centres outside New Zealand in receiving and delivering on payment of the invoice amount, parcels of various articles sent to the order of residents in New Zealand. It was decided to request the secretary of the Associated Chambers of Commerce to give all information. on the. subject.and that the present position be defined.
