There they have snow even when other parts of the Kingdom are basking in the sunshine. If there is any snow or frost going, the Derbyshire hills get it. Cold, biting winds whistle round corners at temperatures fit to freeze the very marrow in your hones. Every drop of water on the hillsides is frozen, and snow lies generally six inches deep. It is the coldest spot in England, bar none. Hence, when a Derbyshire Poultry Keeper doubles the number of eggs he is getting from his birds and maintains the excellent average of eight eggs a day from twelve birds during the coldest spell England has experienced for years, it may be regarded as no small success.
