PARK CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING!. The annual meeting of the Park Howling Cl lib wag he ld last night, Mr F. A. Quin presiding over an attendance of over 30 members. An apology was- received. from Mr F. Mason. The annual report stated that the committee was p/eased to state that, although, net completely successful in club competitions,, the past year bad! been very satisfactory, From a, financial point of view, the, club 'had- made small but steady progress. The bank overdraft at May 31 stood at £382 14s, after allowing for cash in hand, compared with £379 15s 2d at the close of the previous year. The amount received for members’ .sabs fell from £2OO 11s to £i72 10s Dd. Special expenditure, the painting of the pavilion (£l2), green improvement (£IS T9si 7cl) was essentia'. Bank interest wins, reduced by £9 10s 3d. Wages amounted to £lO3 tes. as compared with £77 10s laist .ear. Profit on sales of tobacco amounted to £7 Is od. From the foregoing, it was pointed out that with a reduced income of £2B and an added expenditure of £32. after allowing for reduced interest and profit on tobacco and only an inerea,-.© of £2 19s in the amount of bank overdraft, the finances of the. club had been carefully handled. The present membership stood at 82, of which 11 were honorary members. Twentyeight new members were elected during the year and four resigned., while 26 mi financial members were struck off. While keen interest was .shown in dlub competitions by a. number of enthusiastic' players, considerable apathy was shown by others who entered their names, thus detracting largely from the geliteral interest. This difficulty had always more or less exercised the committee, 'but owing to the extra hour of ’>! ay provided by the Summer Time Ac-t some improvement was evidenced. The committee emphasised the. value of these competitions from the point of view of the practice 'they affordied 1 , and hoped that more member® would enter. The results of the competitions played wore as follow : Handicap pairs, Messrs M. R. Kendall and Dillon; chamoi.on.ship singles, W. McLaren; hand-imp singles. A. Grant and Dillon (tie); B handicap singles, F. Jellyman.

During the season 'the club wais -represented with considerable distinction in more important events, the most noteworthy filature being the unusual record of W. Mcljaren. who won the Taranaki championship singles without ia loss in either clu-b or subsequent games, while Messrs Parkes. Mvirdoch and Quin, who with Mr F. Hotter in tlie place of Mr W. Grant, won the Faster tournament for the second t-smo in succession. The Cnun challenge cup, for competition between singles links from the Hawera and Park Clubs, was suceessfu’ly defended bv Messrs Parkes, . Goodwin. Quinn and Ca.nn in the initial game, anil five, ties in succession by Parkes, Kendall. Goodwin, and Quin until beaten bv the small margin of four points in the seventh game. In chib matches the record,' was less brilliant, hut the foregoing, results should' be a, healthy Stimulant during the coming rpnson. Ton games were won and nine lost or drawn. The club was unfortunate in losing a former president in the person of Mr W. Grant" through removal from Hewer a. Mr Dillon was elected to the committee to fill the vacancy. The statement of receipts' and expenditure showed that the margin from revenue under existing conditions, after allowing for payment of wage® and bank interest w-a t «" not sufficient to meet the cost incidental to improving and m«R.ntaining thc condition of •the green and the general, expenses of the c.luh.. The expenditure has been carefully administered' and no appreciable reduction is "ossible. The onlv alternative, therefore. was to increase revenue, and this was a, matter calling for very serious consideration. Deviations had been made W Mr Kendall f'3 3s, and Mi' McPhil'lins £1 1 os 1 towards tlv> cost of tvonlr'es. and' Mr -TePvman had presented a, medal and Mr Omin a cup. The: report and balance-sheet were adopted.

FODCTIO'N OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted as follows : President, Mr F. A. Quiin ; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs M. H. Kendall, A. Murdoch; treasurer, Mr E. Thurston; secretary, Mr O. Cummings. Committeemen. Ten nominations were received for the three positions to be filled, and on a vote being taken the following were declared elected : Messrs A. Grant, W. Butler and G. Vi liars; Messrs O. W. Curtis and S. Parks being the guarantors’ nominees. .Mr A. Grant wa,s- elected aiiditor. - Delegates to centre: Messrs F. A. Quin and C. Oummings were elected. OTHER. BUSINESS. The clr airman read tlie following notice of motion forwarded by Mr F. Mason: “Be Banner Finals. —That instead of the present system of assembling winners of the various divisions at a centre to decade the championship, the following method be adopted : The winner.of the northern division to play the winner of the central division and the winner of the southern division to play the winner of the western division —the championship then to be decided by the winners of these games playing off at a suitable centre. The different win-

ners of the division* to arrange their own. time and ground to play off.” It was decided that the club give notice of motion on the lines suggested. On the motion of Mr Cummings it was decided that nominations for offices and committeemen in future be in the hands of tlie secretary fourteen days prior to the annual meeting. “That the senior vice-president goes into the president's chair and the junior vice-president automatically becomes the senior at the annual meeting” was a motion proposed by Mr. Cann, hut it was lost on the voices. It, was decided to appoint a recorder to take results at all matches in the competitions, and Mr. C. Cummings was selected for the office. It was decided that no rebate bo given on subscriptions. It was unanimously decided to hold a complimentary social to the ladies during the winter,'the following, committee of four being appointed: Messrs. Dillon, C. Cummings, G. Villars and Williams. .. A hearty vote of thanks to the green warden, Mr. F. A. Quin, was carried by acclamation. The retiring secretary, Mr. H. A. Morgan, was accorded an unanimous vote of thanks for his -services.
