Leo Constant Francois Marie Janssens, charged: with making a fai.se. declaration on a marriage license, was admitted toi two years’ probation by Mr Justice Blair at the Supreme Court to-day. The judge advised him. to make the present marriage valid. UNUSUAL PROCEDURE. HAMILTON, June 14. An unusual procedure waisi taken at the Supreme Court to-day in a case in which Ernest Alexander Cooper pleaded guilty to the theft of a ring and a cheque, but denied, thv3 theft of £6 from the home of Cecil Samuel Cooper, a farmer of Waihou. L\lr Justice Blair pointed out this morning that the jury had considered the case for four hours, and had disagreed'. Mr H. T. Gillies, for the Crown, agreed that it was not advisable to have a new trial, so he proposed to call no evidence so that a, formal verdict could he. returned. The jury accordingly declared tbj? accused not guilty. ILLEGAL TAKING OF GAME. WELLINGTON, June 14. A fine of £lO was imposed in the Upper Hut-t Court yesterday on Richard King for shooting four native pigeons. For killing opossums without a license Albert Bennett was fined the maximum of £2O, and was also finpd £3O for being in possession of skins. It was also stated tha t he was trapping on a wholesale scale. The ease against a companion was remanded. On visiting the camp, the ' 'ranger collected 86 traps. ALLEGED' FAILURE TO 1 ACCOUNT. AUCKLAND, June 16. Algernon Jame.s Body, aged 56, was remanded on bail until June 21 on fifteen charges of failure to account to the Southern Cross Insurance Company for sums totalling £153. THEFT OF MONEY ADMITTED AUCKLAND, June 16. A young public trust officer, a clerk Whose name was suppressed, pleaded guilty (and was .remanded in custody for a week for the probation officer s report) to three charges of theft of money amounting to £55 14s.
