(From Our Own Correspondent.) TOWN BOARD. The usual monthly meeting of the Ofpuniake Town, Board was held on Monday, those present 'being Grs. O. A. Trofcer (chairman), W. Gunson, H. Davey, ’and J. Gaddy. The foreman (Mr A. G. Donnolly) reported as follows: Repairs were effected to Beach Road and metalway of Allison Street. The blinding and .remotailing of Tennyson and Dounnett Streets was completed. Fox Street. —Blinded metal from Tennyson Street to within a cliain of Allison Street. King Street. —Completed formation of path to Air Gaddy’s house ; also patching of motahvay on Alain South Road; cleaned water chan-u-eils on \V.a,ia,uL LhiliL; 3>aclciog xtp of pat-h from Allison to Tennyson vStree Is. Whitcomb© Road.—Completed metalling to Alessrs; Bowman and Grover's gateways. La,yard Street. —Have done fair amount of .patching. Pipe-making has been carried out during wet days; the usual! rulblbish clean-up si were, carried out; tllier© has been no, top dressing of Main Street paths. Th© two barrels of Uolfix ordered have com© to hand and experiments with them will be carried out.

Contractor P. Northcotfc lias completed delivery of 164 yards of pit metal and 102 yards of clay binding. We have about 40 yardsi of boulder stone toi break. As soon as broken would recommend refacing of Havelock Street from Alain Street to King Street.

Tlhe poundkeeper reported that 21 head of cattle had been impounded during the month. Eleven had been released on the road. SiAiNID DRIFT.

Alessrs A. Pettigrew and T. H. H. Sinclair, members of the Opunake Harbour Board, waited on the board in reference to the ever-increasing sand drift. They pointed out the seriousness of the position and urged, the board to join -with the Barbour Board in talcing preventive measures, such a,s planting sand-gras® in affected areas. The Harbour Board would compel tenants of harbour leases to take preventive measures. Tine chairman said that the fencing of planted area® would be the biggest item. He favoured' ; transplanting lupins. ■ ' Mr ~ Pettigrew thought ; sand grass' was the best. Or. Gunson moved that a committee consisting of th© chairman, Crs. Raynor, Gaddy and himself meet the Harbour Board on the spot on Friday next and discuss what was best to be done. Cr. Davey seconded and the motion was carried. UNEMPLOYMENT. A letter was received from the Hon. O. J. Haiwken in reference to providing work for unemployment during the winter months, on the lines received iby other local bodies. The chairman favoured' making application for a loan of £6OO to' be spent on grading tbe road to the wharf. This work, he said, Was of utmost importance'to the ratepayers, for they wanted to give as much help as possible to enable the Harbour Board to make itself rove nue-produt-i ng. He moved that application foe renewed for £6OO to ,b© spent to provide work for unemployed a® stated. Or. Davey opposed the motion and pointed out that this road .was outside the board’s area. The motion was carried.

It was decided to- contribute the usual amount to the Taranaki Local Bodies’ Association.

In accordance with the past custom it was decided to vote the sum of £6 t© the Opunake library. The action of the works committee in accepting th© tender of J. P. Northcott of 4s 6d per yard for 140 yards of pit metal and 3s 6d per yard lor clay blinding wa® confirmed. ■Mr A. H. Aloore mad© application on behalf of W'ai Yep and Co. lop permission to erect a verandah on the premises recently occupied by L. Goad. Permission was granted, subject to the usual conditions.

The Clerk stated that the, hospital levy , had been increased Iron) £1,2 to £l6 per month. Th© number of objectors to the recent valuation® was not yet known, but it was decided to take the necessary steps to appoint an assesso r. The clerk was instructed to take action to recover all rates which had been outstanding for two years- and over and also for rents of reserves which were overdue.

The Domain. Board, on the motion of Or ;Gunson, gave permission to the Ladies’ Hockey Glub to ns© the ground on the -seaward side of th© football ground. The Taranaki Rugby Union wrote stating .-that it regretted the union was unable to make a grant to improve the football area, but stated that the original offer made by the union still stood. There wias a good attendance at the fortnightly euchre party held on Alon- • day evening by the St. Barnabas Ladies Guild. The prizes were won by Mrs McOull-um and Mis® J. Magee ami the consolation prizes by Mrs Elvines and Air H. Ashworth. The hostesses were Mesdames F. Julian and G. Hammond.
