Proceeding on a short visit to Wellington, Mr. A. R. Bates, of Kaponga, was a passenger by the south express this morning.
Mr. W. M. Matthews, of Wellington, and iormerly of Hawera, who has been 011 a visit to Hawera, returned south by this morning’s express. Private advice has been received in Hawera of the death at Masterton yesterday afternoon of Miss Halfyard, who was for some time in charge o* the showroom at Westaway and Co., of this town.
Mr. George McQuay, the missing soldier who was recently restored to liis relatives after having been missing since the war years, lias returned to Stratford in company with his mother. At Eltham Mr. McQuay was met by many friends, all of whom he had no clinic-ulty in recognising, and at the Stratford station Mr. McQuay also recognised many of the old iriends who had come to greet him. Mr. IMicQuay s health has very much improved since his return to New Zealand, and if lie continues to improve he may be able to remain permanently in Stratford.—“Post.”
