MONEY FOR COMMUNISTS. INVESTIGATIONS IN BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, June 11. Continuing his statement in the House of Commons regarding money rom Moscow for Communist organisation in Britain, Sir William JoynsonHicks, Home Secretary, said that tho name of the clerk of the Moscow Narodny Bank was W. B. Duncan. There were also transactions through Quelch and Priestlv in connection with £13,786. Air. J. H. Thomas. ‘‘Does three persons’ receipt of money constitute an illegal act f”
Sir William: “I will have to take legal advice.”
Mr. Thomas: “If the action is illegal will yen, in the interests of the State, take the necessary steps?” Sir William: “if the legal advisers are of opinion that the money coming in is a crime.” Air. J. Alaxton: “Will you dare to investigate the funds of the party of which I am chairman?” Sir AVilliam: “If I think it desirable l will dare anything.’’ (Laughter.) Air. Alaxton (angrily) : “Do you assert that this is the law of the land?” Sir William: “I realise I must act within the law, but I am not afraid o you.”
