OVERSTAYED HIS I.EAVE. (by telegeaph—press association.) WELLINGTON, June 2. A Chinese named Lee Sow was fined £2O in the court to-day for remaining in the Dominion after the expiry of a, iteporary permit. The defendant had overstayed his leave by 21 months. “There is evidently an organised! gang working these permits, for a large number have overstayed their leave,” sa.id the Collector of Customs. SENTENCES AT WANGANUI. WANGANUI, June 2. Prisoners sen&eneied by Mr Justice Reed at the Supreme Court to-day were:—Raumewa Tahima, foir false pretences. three years’ probation. Bernatd Conroy, for .assaulting the court bailiff, a year’s l reformative treatment. John Edward We!bon, for forgery and uttering, who hal a long list of convictions, to two years’ hard labour, and to be declared "an habitual criminal.
