(Ifrum Our Own Coriespondent.)

- BACHELORS’ BALL. As anticipated, the annual bachelors ’ ball, wnich was held in the local hall on aloud ay evening, was a huge success, the • hall being packed with visitors from various parts of the province. A most enjoyable time was spent by all present, although the hall was too overcrowded for easy dancing. A good supper was provided, and the music was supplied by Boulton's orchestra, extras being played by Miss Cooper, of Eltliam. The main part of the hall was tastefully decorated with coloured streamers, which were suspended from a string running along 1 the middle of the hall to eaeu wall. Coloured electric lights of red and green, with the colours of the evening costume's, gave a fine effect. The floor was in excellent order, which reflected great credit on the committee in charge. A striking even! of the evening was that of the “moonlight” waltz, when the hall was lit with pale green coloured electric lights. Tins threw a. dark green shade over the hall. which added tremendously to the comfort of the dancers. FAREWELL SOCIAL. A farewell social was tendered to Mr. and Mrs. T. I'reeee and Ah’. Stacie in the local hall on Wednesday evening. A large crowd packed the hall, which showed the high esteem in which all three were held by residents of the district. The Maori hand supplied excellent music, while the floor was in good order. Mr. 'I - . Preece. who has been a resident of the district for many years, has bought a farm near Cambridge. Mr. Colson, after a short speech, presented Mr. and Mrs. Preece with a large barometer and silver teapot respeetiveiy. mentioning the fact that both had been excellent helpers in all events of the . district, and that what Mangatoki lost through their leaving, Cambridge would gain. Mr. P arker, on behalf of the Farmers' Union, thanked Air. Preece for the lively interest lie had taken in the branch, and on behalf of the “haymaking party” he presented him with a small present as a token of appreciation oj his valuable aid. AH.
