TARANAKI v. WANGANUI

The. annual match 'Taranaki v. Wanganui is eagerly Hooked forward: to by all Soccer fans and on Monday patrons of the. round ball game should not be disappointed. The Wanganui team this year is stronger than ever, and while 'Taranaki 'in previous years has practically relied on the southern clubs to produce the players, the T.F.A. has tliis year made a provincial selection. Thi' team to take the field on Monday is one of the strongest yet fielded. Taranaki’s goalie, Hurtles, hails from Auroa. He is a born goal-keeper 'and his anticipation of the ball is wonderful. He is quite a young player, .and should develops into an international with' careful coaching. Hon Betterklge (right back) dfe an old rep. He played against the Chinese students and has represented Taranaki on many occasions. Beane (left back) is recognised as one the best backs Taranaki has seen. His caps include Chinese Students .and Canada. Of the half-backs. Aiird. who will be playing his first rep. game, is a. greats worrier. The Wanganui left wing will know that he is playing. lie does liei let tlie grass grow. Fairbnrn (N.P.). the centre-half, hails from the “Land o’ the Thistle.” He will ho rcprcw-'iiting Taranaki for tho first time. On his play in the trial game ho is ’ worth his place in any team. ' Stewart (Stratford) has ton. honours at left half, and lie completes, a good half-back line. In the forwards the selectors have made almost- a new line. The leftwinger (Campbell) (N.P.), played a. great game in the trials, and as lie ha.-' a club-mate (Hill) as partner, Taranaki’s left wing should b? dangerous. Freak ley. Taranaki’s most versatile player, will act as pivot. He will hold the forward line together, and with Moloney (Celtic) and Morgan (Hawera) will complete a. .strong attack. Moloney will he playing his first rep. game with the senior team, but lie ha.s captained the junior reps, on .several occasions. Morgan is an old Manavatu rep. and is playing well up to form. Altogether the Taranaki players comprise a .strong combination, and Wanganui will have to deliver the goods to beat it. The curtain-raiser will be provided by the Amateur Athletic Clubs of Hawera. and New Plymouth.. This is also becoming an annual fixture. Last year Ha.wera were tin? victors, but New Plymouth are determined to turn the tables on Monday. Followers of both codes will; have an opportunity of witnessing a. game of their choice.
