THE SMILE CASTLE

THE CASTLE PLEDGE.

X promise to smile every time X can, and. to chase all the frowns into the dark cave, where the Smile Giant will kill fhem with his Magic Sword Happiness.

My Dear Smiles, —

No doubt most of you have heard .your parents talking about the proposal to have established in our public hospital a radio service for the .use of the patients. Have any of you ever been a patient in a hospital? Well, if you have, vou will know how dreary it can be during the long hours of loneliness. Now there is a movement on foot to establish a radio-receiving service in the public hospital so that whenever a patient feels inclined he or she may be able to listen-in to the news and entertainments sent 'out all over the Dominion by the various stations in the chief centres for those who own wireless sets. ; How nice then would it be for the patients lying in hospital to be,:, able to participate in, the enjoyment that is obtained from this marvellous invention. This splendid undertaking should bring happiness to many who are confined to their beds in the future and should in a large measure also help to alleviate their sufferings. lam sure that all the boys and o*iris would like to participate in this splendid project. One of the speakers at the meeting held on Tuesday last to consider the proposal remarked that if every one gave sixpence towards the fund that would provide sufficient money to carrv out the scheme to a successful issue. Most people can afford more than that, I am sure. Yet even if each boy and girl gave only a. sixpence towards the fund that would realise in the aggregate a fairly large sum Now Smiles, let us see what you all can do towards helping in this worthy object . Even though it may mean denying yourselves some luxury you will, by helping to swell the radio fund, be doing a gracious act. The promoters of this fund hope shortly to have the appeal brought directly under the notice of the residents in all parts of Taranaki, so look out Smiles, and when you see an effort being made in your district give it all the help you can.

Love to you all. Yours, — SMILE QUEEN
