EAST COAST RAILWAY. (JJT TJEUKGRA PH'IJ-PEEHS ASSOCIATION.) TAURANGA, May 31That portion of the East Coast railway from Te Puna, to Tahawai, on the Tauranga-Waihi section, constructed by Armstrong, Whitworth and Company, will be finally handed over to the Government as from to-morrow, and trains will continue to be run by the Public Works Department until the line is-taken over by the working railways, either on June IS or June 30. HINEMOA IN A GALE. AUCKLAND, May 31. The .steamer Hinemoa,* which left Auckland on May 9 on its leper island cruise, encountered very bad weather, and was hove-to during the gale. On May 13 the decks were flooded, and considerable damage was done to deck fittings. One big sea shifted the hedge anchor, weighing over a ton, from its. lashings, carried away the ship’s figurehead, and flooded the seamen’s quarters, there being three feet of water in the forecastle during the gale. She was delayed two days on the voyage to Rarotonga, on account of the gale.
