KAPONGA.

CATHOLIC BALL. The Catholic; hall held recently at Kaponga lurnished an added proof of the thoroughness and enthusiasm infused into any form of entertainment undertaken by that section of the community _ There was an attendance of over ■ 100 couples, drawn - * from as far afield as fetratiord, Hawera, and Opunake. The hall and supper room decorations, in nikau palms, ferns and coloured lights, were a special feature, and reflected credit on a large band of willing helpers under direction of Mrs. Horace Mellow and Miss A. Melville. Messrs M. Coinerlord and P. and ,'J. Hammersley acted as iM’sC. During the supepr recess extras were contributed by Misses G. Emmett (Hawera), M. Evans (Kaponga), an cl B. Hickland (Biverlea). iMiss A. Noonan and Mr. Davison were awarded the prizes in a Monte Carlo dance, and a “spot” waltz was won by Miss W. Dawson and Mr. J. Brown. A strong committee, comprising Mesdames D. Malone, A. It, Bates, D. Fitzgerald, T. Benton, James Murphy, John and James Bolger, J. U’Doiioghue, Misses J. .Melville, \V. Dawson, H. Powell. K. Belli, B. Hickland, M. Malone, Brown (3), M. Hammersley, and Josic Murphy, were in charge of supper arrangements and assisted in no small degree in making the function one of the most enjoyable and successful yet held in the township. The joint secretaries, Mrs. J. (J’-Lfonogluie and Mr. P. Hammersley, were also responsible for much of the success of the function, by which the church funds will materially benefit.
