CHILDREN IN FANCY DRESS

A PRETTY SIGHT

For 13 years in succession Otakeho has had one night annually devoted to a fancy dress parade for the children of the district. The 1928 function was held last night, and was in many ways about the. best yet held by the organisers. The funds are to be devoted to the school library fund. Air. H. J. Eaves presided, and in ahappy speech thanked all present for helping and all who had assisted in the organisation. There had been, lie said, a strong* committee of. ladies, and all had done yeoman service. He also thanked the donors of the special prizes, the judges, and all others who had 00-operated to secure success. The promoters were led by Aliss A. White (lion, secretary), Airs. Eaves (head of the committee), Airs. Evans, (headmistress), while Airs. Aludford played for the dances. The little ones enjoyed a thoroughly good time, and made the hall look very gay <md pretty. The awards were as below: Under five years. —Boy, B. Langley (Rabbit); girl, Al. Putt (Christmas Tree). Specials: E. Twidle (Bride), N. Campbell (Clown). _ ’ Under 10 years—Girl, J. AlcYinme (Wedding Cake); boy, J. AAood (Eastern Prince). N. Wood (Dancing Girl) and E. Burke (Ancient Greek) were o-iven second prizes, and J. AValker (Sweet Lavender) and F. Le Fleming (Maori Boy) .special prizes. Under 15 years. —Girls. J. Al-cCul-lum (Winter)' 1, K. Campbell (Britannia) 2; bovs, E. Edwards (Indian) 1, 0 Campbell (Kaupokonui Company) 2. Specials: Girl, H. Nicholls (Horse for Sale); hoy, R. Aleek (Chinaman). . A special prize was given by Air. A. Al. Hannah .for babies to B. Langley (Rabbit); by Air. Thomson (New Plymouth) under 15 to IT. Pushm (Butterfly) ancl F. Edwards (Nigger Afinstrelj- Specials were also given by Airs. Robb, Airs. Good, and Air. Braid. Amongst those present were: K.
