THE SCOUT MOVEMENT.

GOOD WORK RECOGNISED,

PRESENTATION TO MR. E. DIXON. To mark the completion of a number of years’ work given as chairman of the Citizens ’ Committee of the Boy Scouts in Hawera, Mr. E. Dixon, who has recently given up the position, was presented by the commissioner with, the swastika. He said it was a feature of the movement that services were given without thought of reward, doing them for the work’s sake. But, he said, where special service was given by people outside the company, they felt they must acknowledge good work and therefore, they had decided to give Mr. Dixon the special swastika badge. 'Mr. Dixon had given much service in the cause of the young people, in educational matters, in athletics; —the 'Dixon Banner sports and in Sunday school work for many years. He had also been largely responsible for the building of the hall in which the scouts worked and so they gave him the swastika or thanks badge, a gold emblem surmounfed by the Tleur de Lys. Mr. Dixon said he thanked all for the kind remarks and for the honour done to him. He said he had only been one of the committee that worked for the hall and thanks to continued activities, specially by the ladies, the hall was free of debt. He urged the boys to work for work’s sake ,not for hope of reward and wished them all success and prosperity in the future. He took a .keen interest in the movement and urged the parents to lend cordial assistance so that the members might be doubled in the .near future.
