SPEED TRIALS ON PENDING SANDS. R.A.O. BANS CAMPBELL’S ATTEMPT. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN PRESS ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, May 17. “I do not see why we should not be allowed to take the risk,” said Captain Malcolm Campbell, commenting on the Royal Automobile Club’s ban on his attempt to regain the world’s speed record on the Pendine Sands. He now must incur the terrific expense of taking his car and organisation abroad. Nevertheless he intended to try to regain the record. An official of the club, defending its decision, said there was only a bare seven miles of sand, with a river at on© end and a wall of rock at the other. The club did not wish to appear redtapish, but it was felt that it would be almost criminal to grant a permit. He recalled that Parry Thomas was killed on the Pendine Sands in March, 1927.
