Prince Carol’s departure from- Godstone was the occasion of a wildgoose chase, in which the whole- Press of England was hoodwinked. A car piled with luggage suddenly dashed through the gateway. “That,” shouted the poli?o, “is the Prince.” Ten waiting cars, including a French detective representing the French Government, a number of agents of foreign Powers, English and foreign journalists, dashed in pursuit. The cars tore- along at 60 miles an hour. Thewhole thing resembled a cinema, stunt, Th chase continued through London’s dense traffic as far as Hyde Park corner, where- the leading car stopped 1 . The blinds were run up, and the car was found to contain a- friend of Prince Carol. . In the meantime Prince Carol, with no attempt at secrecy, entered another car and sped towards Dover. Six other cars then dashed from- London to Dover just in 'time to see Prince Carol surrounded by English detectives and- Home Office* officials walk on to the boat. Prince Carol, expressing obvious annoyance, swiftly descended to his private cabin.
