OPERA HOUSE:, TO-NIGHT. ‘‘THE BOOB.’’ A whimsical picture of youth that vvil appeal to and delight both young and old is the new Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer production, ‘‘The Boob,” which opens at the Opera House to-night, with Gertrude Olmsted, George _K. Arthur, Joan Crawford and Charlie Murray. Heralded as one of the most entertaining screenplays for some time, its theme is the story of the adventures and romance that meet a counfcry boy trying to win back his sweetheart. It is the first production of William Wellman for this company, and is a hilarious comedy plentifully supplied with thrills. It was adapted for the screen from the story “Don Quixote, Junior,” by George Scarborough and Annette Westbay. Other films to be shown in support will be a gazette, N.Z. Scenic and Our Gang Comedy. These celebrated artists "who are making their second world tour have recently arrived in the Dominion after a phenomenally successful tour of Canada and the United States. They can only give one concert in Hawera and music lovers will be given an opportunity of hearing them at the Opera House on Tuesday, May 22. Dawn Assheton is a coloratura soprano with sensational vocal power and a fascinating personality who has been acclaimed by the critics of the entire world as the most gifted and versatile singer England has produced during the last decade. In addition' to a glorious voice "with the unique range of three octaves (“G” to “G”), she has a stage presence that has inspired seme of the greatest portrait painters to paint the artist’s likeness. Dawn Assheton is not only a primadonna of grand opera, but, according to the musical critic of the London '“Press,” is without a peer in the rendition of quaint character and folk.songs, which she sings dressed in the picturesque costumes of the musical lands whose songs she interpret so brilliantly. Associated with Dawn Assheton is Laszlo Schwartz, the distinguished ICungarian Violinist-composer and author, Avho is already well known to New Zealanders, not only on account ■of his brilliant compositions and his molific contributions to musical Journalism, but by his conception and interpretation of music on the violin of which he is a master of world-wide renown. Speaking of the first concert given in the town hall, Wellington, recently the “Evening Post” reported as follows: “Dawn Assheton has not only a beautiful voice that commands admiration, but :s a gifted interpreter with uncanny interpretive poAver and possesses an irresistible personality.”
