GUILTY ON TWO COUNTS.
DRUNKENNESS AND NEGLIGENCE. GFjORGE CRAVY SMITH FOR SENTENCE. Following a deliberation of an hour and threequarters yesterday atternoon, the jury at the Supreme Court, New PL mouth, acquitted George Cravy Smith on the charge of manslaughter, but found him guilty on the other two charges of causing the death of Millicent Elizabeth Richter by being in charge of a motor car while in a state of intoxication near iMokoia, on February 24 and with causing Mrs Richter’s death by negligent driving. His Honour Mr Justice Reed deferrecl sentence until to-morrow morning. As shown in the report of evidence for the defence and the judge’s summary published yesterday, the jury retired at six minutes past one. The verdict- was returned at 3.50 p.m.
