MOKOIA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) GIRD "GUIDE S. On Tuesday evening a very bright and interesting programme was carried -out by the local Guides and Brownies. The occasion was for the purpose of presenting second class badges gained by Guides Jean Lauder, Clev. Quinn, Ethel Lander, Una Smeaton and Marguerite Legge. Mrs Houston, acting provincial commissioner, assisted by district commissioner, Captain Miss R. Hawken, presentedthe badges, and in doing so congratulated the company on the pro-, gress it had made. Mr N. C. Cowie, Scoutmaster of the local Scout .movement, then made a presentation of a totum to the Brownies. The principal work of the totum was made and presented by the local Scout Association, by Messrs Westwood and Mclntyre, Hawera, the Scouts putting it together and artistically painting it in appropriate colour. jn making the presentation Mr Cowie remarked on the splendid spirit of comaradcrie existing between the two movements in the district and hoped that that spirit would continue and develop further. Mrs Houston, in accepting the totum or behalf of the Brownies, reciprocated the good feeling existing and said she was sure the Guides would do all they could at any time to assist their brother organisation. The Brownies then carried out a programme of songs and recitations in a very creditable manner, for which they received he|arty rounds of applause. The names of the performers were: — Brownies Mary and Joyce Lee, Nola Neithe, Francis Nickel, Micky Hawken, Una Bright, Allison Phillips, Joan Holden and Lily Quinn. The Guides then submitted their portion of the programme, consisting, of camp fire ceremony morse signalling, recitations and pianoforte solos and a duet, also several camp fire songs, and country dances. The names of the Guides taking part were: Recitations, Marguerite Begge, Winne iSmith, Jean Main, Coryll Phillips; pianoforte solos Cieo. Quinn, Peggy Barkla and Noami Mortague; pftmforte duet, Jean and Ethel Lander.

At the finish of the programme supper was provided by the ladies and a very enjoyable evening closed with a few dances for the adults-
