Mr. R. W. G. Lye, telegraph engineer in charge of the Wanganui district, retired recently on superannuation after 37 years’ service. On the eve .of his retirement he was met by members of the department and presented with, a suitcase. In making.the presentation Mr. G. Beaglehole paid a warm tribute to the retiring officer. Opportunity was also taken to welcome Mr. J. Webster, who succeeds Mr. Lye. The latter leaves by the lonic for England at an early date.
