AN ESCAPEE CAUGHT. [BY TELEGRAT-n—VREBB ASBOOJATION.I MASTER TON, May 2. On a charge of escaping from the Auckland prison on December 5, 192,6, Samuel Arthur Pudney appeared before Mr E. G. Eton, J.P., in the Magistrate’s Court here to-day. He was remanded to appear at Wellington on Friday. He was arrested early in the day at the Alataikona station, about 50 miles from Alasterton, where he was engaged in fencing. It is stated that he escaped from prison at about 8 o’clock and made liis way to Tauinarunui, travelling at night time along the railway line. About five months ago he came to the Wairarapa district. He was serving a term of two yeaTs’ imprisonment for false pretences when he escapedNOT GUILTY. " TIATARU, May 3. At the Supreme Court, before Air Justice Adams, Leslie James Roach was charged with the theft -of moneys totalling £4O 17s 6d from the Farmers and Graziers ’ Supply Service. He was found not guilty.
