The usual monthly meeting of the Hawern branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, combined with a. “bring and buy” afternoon, was held at the residence of Mrs. T. W. Owen on Friday. Mrs. Exley presided over a good attendance, considering the wet afternoon. Mrs. Spavin ga"ve an excellent report on the recent convention held in Napier. Three new members were enrolled, and all present were! interested to learn that it was at Mrs. Owen’s home where the president joined the union. A vote of thanks was passed to the hostess for kindness in providing the afternoon tea. A successful sale of the goods provided was held, the proceeds being for local work.
