EARLY MORNING EPISODE
CAUGHT WITHOUT A LICENSE. Accosted by Constable Ridgeon in Union Street" during the early hours of Saturday morning, -a garage employee, Harold James, who was driving" a car, was unable- to produce a license, but contended he had been issued with one. Interviewed later in the day, he admitted the first intimation was false, and subsequently lodged -a written plea, of guilty to the charge preferred- in the- Hawera Court to-day of having driven without a license. The offence, together with the statement with reference to the license, was dealt with h.v Mr*. R. W. Tate, S.M., who inflicted a. fine of £2- and 10s- costs, and it was explained by Sergeant Henry that defendant, who had not been authorised to take out the car, had been reprimanded- by his employers.
