(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) TENNIS BALE. The grand ball, hold by the local tennis club an Friday evening last, was a most outstanding success, the amount of about £2B being taken at the door. The ball was beautifully decorated with coloured streamers and greenery and presented a pleasing appearance. Coburn’s orchestra, as usual, plnyied excellent music and things were kept going with a swing by the energetic M.’SC., Messrs. Gibbons and JKchcly. The various competitions held were well supported including the ladies waltzing competition for which Mr. R. Tremain, who was .fudge of all waltzing competitions, donated the prizes. The open waltz fell to Mr.’ Gibbons and Airs. Evans, of Auroa, and the ladies’ waltz to Mrs. Purvis and Airs. Evans. Two spot dances were held, the first being won bv Airs. Evans and partner, and the second by Air. R. Whittington and partner. The supper, was in the capable hands of Afesdames Gargan and Josephson and a committee of other lady members of the club. An icc cream and soft drinks .stall was also well patronised and was run by the Misses Evans, of Kaponga. Altogether the dance was the most successful held here for some years. FAREWELL SOCIAL.

To-morrow evening"a farewell social i s to be tendered in the local hall to Miss G. Ad. Brooker, who has been assistant teacher here for the past four years. Miss Brooker, who has boon tinnsferred to Stratford, is a most capable and popular teacher and a large attendance is expected at the farewell.
