OPENING POSTPONED

Owing to the wet weather on Saturday afternoon, the opening of the golfing season, for which complete arrangements had been made, was not held. It will probably be fixed for Saturday next.

A hand of eleven players including three ladies, bra veil the elements and had an enjoyable round. They found the course in really good order, fairways being clean and turf nice and springy, while greens were i.n very good condition. Members of the ladies’ committee hope to' see a full attendance of members and intending members at the annual meeting of their club this evening in the borough chambers at 7.30. SUMMER) CUP. On account of the extraordinary growth of grass in the middle- of the summer season, the competition for the Summer Oup was left, unfinished at the final. C. Strange, had beaten Walkley and was therefore to play L. H. Little for the cup. The- match, was played at the week-end and resulted in a stirring struggle, Little eventually winning at the twentieth hole. Strange went off

with the lead and at the fifteenth was donny three. His opponent then put in three good holes and won them all. They halved the 19th and Little went oil to win the 20th and the Summer Cup lor 1927. The Eltham Golf Club will open their season for 1928 on Thursday next, when it is expected there will be a large attendance. The committee extents a cordial invitation to members of other clubs.
