At- the lialf-yearly meeting of the North Island Motor Union at Wellington yesterday, it was decided that a deputation wait upon tl3® Railway Department with a. view to endeavouring to have all level crossings exposed to the utmost extent, and asking the department to co-operate- with the local bodies to have all obstructions re-mo vod in:-order to give greater visibility. A motion was carried that “in view of the fact that the union has- been approached by associations in respect to the price- of petrol now charged in New Zealand as compared with that charged in other countries, an endeavour lie made- to induce the- oil companies- to reduce the price charged to consumers.” It ' was decided to send a deputation to the Government asking that the penalty for converting a car to one’s' own use be made more severe.
The chairman of the Hawera School Committee (Mr. J. W. Harding) wrote to the last meeting of the Education Board on Wednesday asking that the dental clinic be moved, as early as possible after the transfer of the infants. to the new school, in order to ■obviate the necessity for the little ones having to go so far in wet weather for dental treatment. The matter was referred to a committee, of which Mir. A. Lees is a member.
