One of the chief reasons why British and European films of worth have failed to obtain a showing in Australia hasbeen the lack of distributing organisations engaged solely in selling these films. Until recently the business of distribution was, with one exception, in the hands of Australian branches of United’ States producer-distributer organisations. Last year Cinema Art Films was formed with the object of undertaking the distribution chiefly of Ufa (of Germany) productions. News now comes that British Dominions Films Pty., Utd. (Melbourne) have signed an agreement with three leading English producing companies, the films of which it will distribute in Australasia. The British companies ai;e: British Instructional Films Ltd., makers of “Zeebrugge” and other war films; Gaumont Co., Ltd., which produced “ Mademoiselle from Armentieres and New Era Productions' Ltd. The Melbourne organisation will establish exchanges in all the capital cities in Australia and New Zealand. Nine films have boon despatched to Australia and seven of these have been hooked for showing.
