The old method of cleaning plugs by scraping and washing in petrol is one which, is tnes.nne and only moderately eflicient. Try out this method. Take an ordinary wide-mouthed jar (the kind used by the housewife for bottling jam is ideal) and pour into it as much ammonia as will cover the plugs. After immersing them keep the jar tight:\ stoppered. If time permits leave the plugs in the solution overnight, and in 'the morning they will he found thoroughly clean of carbon and burned oil.
