SOUTH TARANAKI TOURNAMENT SUCCESSFUL. CONCLUSION. PRESENTATION OP PRIZES. The South Taranaki Croquet As'so- ' elation concluded its annual tourney yesterday afternoon. There was a large attendance of members and their friends, who all enjoyed good sport during the day, contributed by several high-class matches played under excellent weather conditions. A feature of the tournament was the consistent play of Messrs Clague and Horner. The 'former was successful in the 'open championship, while the latter annexed the South Taranaki championship, and also 'captained the Patea team which won the Campbell Cup., At the conclusion of the tourney, Mr G. J. Baylcy congratulated the association upon the excellent result of the competitions and during his speech referred in eulogistic terms of the great assistance rendered by Alesdames Dowling and Bull (who had deiiied themselves play) to the association by running the tournament. The speaker also tendered on behalf of the association his thanks to Mrs Washer and Miss McDonald, who controlled the morning and afternoon teas, etc; Messrs Earp and McDonald for their valued assistance with the lawns, and the Park and I raw era Clubs far the use of their lawns. The presentation of the trophies was made by Mrs <3. J. Baylev. in the South Taranaki championship singles, best two games out of three, Mr Horner defeated Mr Clague 26—7, 26 —15, the third game being abandoned. In the match for the open championship Mr Horner forfeited the game during play. The following is the list of prizewinners:— 'South Taranaki Championships. —GVIr Horner; runner-up Mr Clague. The winner takes the silver cup presented by Messrs Bennett and 'Sutton. Open Championship. —Mr Clague: runner-up, Mr Horner. Campbell Cup.— Patea team, captain, i od by Mr Horner. At the conclusion of the presentation of the prizes, a presentation was made to Alesdames Bull and Dowling and also Aliss Alc.Donald in appreciatior of their valuable services during the successful running of the tournament. Mr Baylev, on behalf of the recipients, suitably responded.
