LIEUT. KINKHEAD KILLED.
ON TRIAL FLIGHT OF NEW MACHINE.
BY CABLE-PSBSR ASSOCIATION—OOPYEIOHT Received 10.25 a.m. to-day. LONDON, March 12. Lieut, Kinkead, on a trial flight prior to attempting a .speed record, noser dived into the sea and sank with his machine. He was killed and his machine lost. —A.P.A. and “Sun.” An earlier message stated that Flight-Lieutenant Kinkhead made a successful 17 minutes’ trial with the Supermarine Napier. He had hitherto not flown the machine. He says that it worked perfectly. He is confident that it will exceed 300 miles an hour. A curious phenomenon of the trial was that the machine appeared to beat its own .sound, which always iseomed hundreds of vards behind.
