The climax of enthusiasm evoked by dementi ’s visit to Canton reached when General Lichaisum ordered the tearing down of all anti-British posters pa's ted at the height of the antiBritish feeling. It is also reported ‘that the Canton authorities are considering the demolishing of a monument erected in eommemmoration of the Shakee incident and changing the name of the street, memorialising the incident. The incident took place on June 23, 1025, and involved bloodshed between foreigners guarding the Sha meen foreign quarter and the trVhampoa military academy cadets, led by Russians, numbers of cadets being killed. Sir Miles Lampson, the British Minister at Peking, continues to spread goodwill. In Shanghai he was feted bv leading Chinese organisations, necessitating the postponing of his return to the north. Ominousi warlike rumbling from Peking had been heard. Changtsolin is reported to be preparing an antiNationalist drive, but loeal Nationalists are unperturbed. The anniversary of Bun Yat. Sen’s death to-dav passed off quietly.
