A London message reports the death of the iate Mr, Thomas Hardy’s cousin Theresa. Mr. William Scott, employers’ assessor for the Court of Arbitration, retires at the end of the present month and intends taking up his residence in Wellington. According to a Gazette notice, the retention of the title of “Honourable” by Sir Thomas Stringer, until reeently a* judge of the Supreme Court, lias been approved by His Majesty the King.
A Christchurch message states that Mr. M. E. Lyons, agricultural writer and chief of staff or the “Sun” newspaper, has been appointed secretary or the A. and I*. Association, vice Mr. G. G. Denniston, who recently resigned. Mr. E. J- Jones has asked to be retired from the position of chairman or the Railway Board of Management as trom the end of the current financial year, this month. it is understood that the retiiement has been accepted and will take effect from the date mentioned. —“Dominion.”
