BESIDENTS FA BEWELLED
On Wednesday evening the Whareroa Hall was crowded with friends from all round the district to hid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. McPherson and family, who after 23 years’ residence at Whareroa, are leaving to live in Tlawera. The times passed very pleasantly with cards and dancing to music supplied by Mrs. Benton, Misses Hicks, Eustace and Death and Mr. P. Steffert. Messrs. G. Ashton and M. , Hicks capably carried out- tlis duties of M.O.’s. • After supper a happy presentation ceremony took place. On behalf of the gathering Mr. It. Ticks said he had much pleasure in n esenting to the guests of the evening i pair of Moms chairs as a small taken of appreciation of the good services they had rendered in the district. Messrs. G. A. Murphy, Benton, P. o’Dea, A. E. Death, and. Mrs. Benton also made speeches referring to the sterling qualities of the departing guests and wished them future happiness. An apology for absence was received from Mr. A. B. Bobertson. The ceremony concluded with the chorus “For they are Jolly Good Fellows.” “Well this is Whareroa,” said Mr. McPherson when he could be heard, after the applause which greeted him on rising to reply. He expressed the very great, pleasure afforded Mrs. McPherson and himself through the courtesy of the gathering and their pride that during their residence at Whareroa they had made so many friendships. He referred to. the happy and profitable times he had spent when under Mr. P. O’Dea’.s father in the railway service and on behalf of his wife and family he thanked all for their expressions and tokens if good will. GENERAL.
Mr. A. B. Bobertson has had to undergo an operation in the Hawera Hospital. The recent beneficial rain has acted 'ike magic on all pasturets.
