USES FOR WHEY.
MINISTER ADVISES CATJTION. HON. O. J. HAWIvEN INTERVIEWED. Asked to-day for an expression of opinion as to the prospects of cheese factory whey becoming of .greater value as a -by-product of the industry, the Hon. O. J. Hawken, Minister for Agriculture, said that the more economic subject of close investigation during recent years in New Zealand' and in use of cheese factory whey had been the other countries, and there were indications that means would be found to enable -whey to be available in a. dry form for stock foods. Owing to the great importance of tho cheese industry to the Dominion, any such prospective developments were of special interest, and doubtless would -be carefully considered by cheese manufacturing companies. “It therefore seems to me,” said the Minister, ‘ ‘that directors of dairy ,
companies would be well advised to exercise caution in entering into lengthy forward commitments which they might be inclined to make for the disposal of whey from their factories.”
