SHEEP-RAISING IN CANADA.

ANNUAL INCREASE IN FLOCKS. Earners in Canada are responding lo the advice of Governments and livestock and other organisations that there is a bright and profitable future for sheep raising and wool production in the Dominion. During 1926 some .121,809 animals were added to Canadian flocks, while the increment in 1927 is recorded as 120,230, with the total standing at 3,262,700. The increment in Ontario amounted to 67, - 784, while Western Canada added 71,282 to its sheep flocks. Among the Western provinces, British Columbia seems destined to, become outstanding in the sheep-raising industry. The province increased its sheep population by over 60 per cent, in 1928, and this was further increased by 27 per cent, in 1927. Under the stimulus of the Sheep Promotion Committee, keener interest has been taken in the development of the cleared lands of the coastal areas of British Columbia for sheep raising. Over 60,0<)0 acres of potential agricultural lands are cleared each year on the coast of British Columbia, and their intensive development may be more profitably begun with seeding to grasses and clovers followed by sheep grazing.
