RIVAL TO MONTE CARLO
SAN REMO CASINO. CAPITAL OF £2,000,000. LONDON, March 22. . An Italian rival to Monte Carlo has been set up by the opening of a casino for gambling at San Remo by a special decree of the King of Italy. The inauguration ceremony took place yesterday amid enthusiastic scenes. A company has been formed, with a capital of £2,000,000, to exploit the gambling, and the town of Sail Remo is to receive £230,000 annually from the casino. A double railway line is projected between Genoa and the French frontier.
Baccarat, trente et quaraute, and roulette are to be played a't San Remo. The last two games have been the absolute monopoly of Monte Carlo hitherto. Monte Carlo to risk their money at Italians have been forbidden to visit the gambling tables since Mussolini seized the reins of power. Large numbers of Italians took advantage yesterday of the opportunity provided for them on their own riviera, and motored to San Remo, which they hope will one day eclipse the famous resort on the French Riviera.
