FIRE IN TIMBER MILL.
EXTENSIVE DAMAGE ANTICIPATED. SYDNEY, March 8. Eire broke out early this morning in Hudson’s timber yard, Glebe, and is still burning. The damage will be extensive. BRIGADES MAKE GOOD SAVE. ROYS’ NARROW ESCAPE. SYDNEY. March 8. What promised to be one of the 1 arg’.td/ tires. in history was saved by the prompt action of lire brigades. An outbreak at Hudson’s timber yards, one of the largest in Australia, was discovered at 4 o’clock in the morning. The log mill was well alight when the brigades from all parts of the city arrived. The firemen, recognising that there was no hope of saving the mill, concentrated onjfavjng stacks of timber and preventing the spread of the flames. They were assisted in this by fire floats, which pumped an immense quantity of water from the harbour. Two firemen were injured. A number of high school boys who were camped in a rowing shed had a narrow escape, the flames licking the bui'dirm when they were removedThe damage will amount to only several thousands sterling.
