FLEXIBLE RINGS.
CHASE CYLINDER WALLS. As cylinder walls will persist in i apering and losing their proper circular .-hape, piston rings are now being made to chase the changing contents of cylinders and piston ring grooves. The idea is an American one, and the rings ate not yet on the Australian markets. Makers guarantee efficiency for 10,000 miles with each set of rings, which, ani designed for fitting in worn cylinders, and claim that piston slap, oil pumping and loss of compression arei prevented. Rings are made in, three pieces, nil? upper and lower sections are held t ign u against the top anti bottom ot the ring groove by the centre piece, while the centre piece, is overlapped at Os base and thrust against the eykndei wall by a slotted steel -inner ring. Contours- of the cvlind.er walls ate thuo followed for the whole 'length of the stroke, rings expanding where walls are out of round and contracting again in less worn motions.
