G After being closed down for about ten days in consequence of the Christinas and New Year holidays, the merchants opened again on Wednesday, but practically no business is being d«me, as the holiday feeling is still prevalent and many people have not yet settled down. It is expected that very few transactions will take place for another.ten or fourteen days. • Fowl wheat has been sold for forward delivery at os lOd f.o.b. slacks in, and milling wheat' at os 8d to- 5s 9d on trucks at country stations, but in each instance the business done is on a small scale. A. Grade Gar tons: have changed bands at 3s 5-}d f.o.b. sacks' in and B's at 3s 2d to) 3« 3d. Seed's are quite dead with the exception of cocksfoot, in respect of which tlieie lias been inquiry. Only a few lots are changing hands, however. Most holders' are asking one shilling for standard dressed seed. The backwardness' of the season has had nn adverse effect on onions, which will be later than usual in coming forward. It is too early yet to state anything regarding potatoes, but reports to hand indicate that crops should be fair.

LONDON TALLOW MARKET. The Bank of New Zealand, produce department, has received the todo wing advice from its London .office unier date of the 4th inst. : Tallow. —There is a keen ckmnrd. Good mutton was quoted at 40s to 40s 6d per ewt; beef, 38s 6d -o 39s mixed, 38s 6d to 38s 9d; gut, 34s to 3(-'s 6:1.
