ENTERTAINMENTS.

OPERA HOUSE, TO-NIGHT. ‘ 'BLARNEY. ’’ In “Blarney” the picture now showing at the Opera House, the main character roles are portrayed by Renee Adoree and Ralph Graves, supported by Malcolm Waite, Paulette Duval and Bull ontana. The action of the story takes place in Ireland and America, and revolves around James Carabine, champion fighter of Ireland, who is forcibly emigrated to the new world. There he once more enters the pugilistic sphere, and fights nis way to the world’s championship. But he does not win thi s great distinction without experiencing many adventures. ‘ ‘Blarney ” is a clean and -wholesome picture, replete with endless thrills and a delightful love interest, and presents a fascinating aspect of “the good old days.” Ralph Graves, a magnificent physical specimen, is unusually convincing as James Carabine, and Adoree makes her part exceedingly attractive. There is an excellent supporting programme which includes a comedy, Pathe News and New Zealand Scenic.

GRAND THEATRE, TO-NIGHT. “APRAID TO DOVE” AND “THE * ‘ FIREFIGHTERS. ’ ’

The peerless Florence Vidor, whose rise to cinema prominence is nothing short of meteoric, is to be seen to-night at the Grand Theatre in her latest Paramount starring vehicle, “Afraid to Love,” In this picture Miss Vidor varies her performance, and proves that she is as capable in comedy as she has been in the more serious type of drama. She doffs her beauty as easily as she changes costume, and appears a s Katherine Silverton, who makes herself up as a dowdy old maid in order to win a husband. Sounds paradoxical, but the plot of the play is oleverlv motivated and all things are perfectly plausible. There can be no hesitation in naming “Afraid to Love” as one of the most entertaining of this season’s screen comedies. As a story it is technically perfect, as a film well acted. Add' to this the experienced direction of E. IT. Griffith. The supporting programme will include “The Firefighters.”
