BRITISH FINANCE.
REVENUE RETURNS INCREASE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Jan. 2. Revenue returns show that for threefour, ths of the financial year to December 31 there has been a net increase of £13,500,000 over tho corresponding period of last year. The chief increase is in death duties, which are up by £B,500,000, of which over £2,000,000 came to hand in the last three months. The total revenue for nine months is shown at £492,500,000, against which tho expenditure chargeable is £642,500,000, which is an increase over the corresponding period of last year. This increase, however, is more than accounted for by the increase in the sinking fund of over £24,000,000. There is an actual decrease in supply services of over £5,500,000. In the Budget the Chancellor of the Exchequer estimated this year’s revenue at £834,830,000, so that, if the Budget is to be realised, a large sum still remains to be collected in the last three months. Last year, .however, no less than £345,500,000 was raised, and there is generally a bigger inflow of revenue in the first quarter of the financial year.
