DEATHS FROM EXPOSURE
AMERICA’S GROWING LIST.
INTENSE SUFFERING CAUSED. AFTERMATH OF INTENSE COLD. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 12.10 p.m. to-day. NEW YORK, Jan. 3. The list of deaths due to intense cold during the last few days throughout the United States, so far, is definitely known to have reached 72, and the total is expected to rise after the reestablishment of disrupted communications.
At least 150 persons were injured in railroad wrecks due to the storm, principally about Chicago.
Great suffering is felt in the south in those cities which were not equipped to fight the unusual cold. The charitable institutions are taxed throughout the country. The cold is expected to continue for another 24 hours.
