(From Our Own Correspondent.) A very pleasant evening was spent at the residence of Mr. R, Stenlakeon Wednesday last, when a number of his neighbours paid a surprise visit to wish him many happy returns of the day on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Musical and vocal items were rendered by Mrs. Corkill, Mrs. and Miv Mackie, and Mr. Turner, all present joining in community singing. During the evening Mr. Putt, in a happy speech, referred to the many good qualities of Mr. . S ten lake as a neighbour, who had been farming on the Taikatu Road for the past thirteen years, and during that time lie had won the respect and admiration of his neighbours by his energy and, activity oil the ha. yfield, setting a good example to many a younger man.
