ZERO TEMPERATURES.
BLIZZARD IN’ TT.S.A,
MANY FATALITIES REPORTED.
BY CABLE-PRESS ASSOCIATION-COP YEr-HT NEW YORK, Jan. 2. Zero temperatures are prevalent throughout the eastern half o± the United States, -with no relief at present in sight. Relief organisations are expending their maximum effort to aid those suffering from the blizzard which ushered in the New Year. The death list, which is already forty, is mounting hourlv. Ninteen are dead at -Chicago, eight* at St. Louise, two at Pittsburgh, one at New York, and one each m several other cities. , , The snowfall is general, .particularly in the middle west, where drifts eignt to twelve feet deep are reported. The roads are blocked and the train service is badly disrupted. The storm, which broke long standing records in the northern United -States, reached as far south as Texas and Florida.
