OHAWE BEACH.

(To the Editor.)

i Sir, —Would it not be possible for the I Hawera County Council to procure their ' requirements for shingle and boulders 1 from the above beach and in doing so 1 “kill two birds with one stone”? ' Firstly,( by improving our most popu- ' lar holiday resort, and at the same time 1 getting cheaper metal. Looking at the ' beach and roadway, it appears to me ‘ that for a very little cost the council lorries could go down as far as the K bathing sheds to load and save horses; - also the crusher could be worked near ■ the same spot, water being procured ? from the spring in the Maori ground. 3 Then again the river could be worked l when the tides are not suitable, and, * above .all, grazing for the horses is pro- > curable. Comparing the council's pre--1 sent method of procuring metal and ; the prospect of the Ohawe beach, the 1 odds seem to me to bo in favour of the ' latter place, especially in the advan- | tages from the swimmers’ point of ' view. Trusting the Ohawe Beach Committee and abler pens than mine will 1 take the matter up and see what can bo done. I am, etc.— A LOVER OF SEA BATHING.
