THE SECOND DAY. HASTINGS, Jan. 2. There was glorious weather, and a large attendance for the second day of the Hawke’s Bay meeting. The totalisator put through £19,989, as against £14,590 on the second day last year, an increase of £5499. The total for the meeting was £34,852 as compared with £32,183 last year, an increase of £2569. After the New Year Handicap the stewards held an inquiry into Butterscotch’s running. Their finding was that in the opinion of the committee there was an unaccountable reversal of form between the running of Butterscotch on Saturday in the President’s Handicap and her running to-day, but not sufficient evidence to place any responsibility on the owner (J.
