BODY IDENTIFIED.

(BY telegraph—press association.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 31.

The body of the man who was drowned at Petone early yesterday morning has been identified as that of .Jack Hoft, of Foatherston. He called on Thursday afternoon at the residence of a relative at Petone and there had a meal, but as no arrangements had been made as to liis returning, no anxiety was felt. It was not till the relatives read the description of the body found that they realised who had been drowned. The mother of the deceased identified the body this morning. An inquest is to be held. CHILD DROWNED.

NELSON, Dec. 31. Charles Brooks, aged 4-J, son of Mr. Claries Brooks, Blenheim, was accidentally drowned at Tasman yesterday.
